FEB | T-WOW

Opening at the Leeds Grand Theatre, Opera North stages the first revival of Iain Bell and Emma Jenkins' opera 'Jack the Ripper: the Women of Whitechapel' during the Autumn leg of their 2020/2021 season, with a cast including Elin Pritchard, Dame Josephine Barstow and Lesley Garrett. It will subsequently be heard at the Theatre Royal - Newcastle, The Lowry - Salford Quays and Theatre Royal - Nottingham. Click HERE for more info. 

FEB | CARNEGIE

Baritone David Wakeham and pianist Nathaniel LaNasa will be giving the world premiere of a new song cycle by Iain Bell at Carnegie Hall on 5th November 2020. More details to follow...

JAN | A NEW YEAR

The year begins with two UK premieres in January, namely the Pink Singers' performance of 'Much to be Done', the choral finale from Bell's opera 'Stonewall' at Cadogan Hall, and his Concert Ayre 'Tom O'Bedlam' performed by James Cleverton. Later in the year will see the world premiere of two new song cycles and the first revival of his opera 'Women of Whitechapel'. Further details of all of these pieces will be announced in the Spring. 

DEC | STONEWALLED

'Stonewall' was named as one of the best new operas of 2019 in the Annual Excellence in Opera Awards, with Lisa Chavez  receiving a notable mention for her portrayal of Maggie in the piece. The opera was also listed as one of WQXR's best classical concerts of 2019.
