Stonewall
As part of their Third Annual Pride Series, New York City Opera commissioned Iain Bell to compose the opera 'Stonewall', coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. The librettist is Mark Campbell and Leonard Foglia directed. 'Stonewall' received its world premiere on June 21 2019.
The Women of Whitechapel
'The Women of Whitechapel' was co-commissioned by ENO and Opera North. Exploring the 'Autumn of Terror' from the perspective of the Ripper's five victims, Emma Jenkins' libretto shines a light on the harsh reality of the lives of the poor and vulnerable of this time, whilst whilst restoring dignity and humanity to these women whose lives were solely defined by the violence of their end.
A Harlot's Progress
Based on Hogarth’s eponymous engravings to a libretto Peter Ackroyd, 'A Harlot’s Progress' received its world premiere in Vienna’s Theater an der Wien in 2013.

The titular harlot was created by German soprano Diana Damrau in a tour-de-force role that calls upon the full vocal and dramatic resources of this astonishingly gifted performer portraying Moll’s journey from naïf to courtesan to syphilitic Drury Lane prostitute.
A Christmas Carol
An operatic adaptation of Dickens’ festive classic, setting Dickens’ own one-man version of the novella.

Scored for solo tenor and a chamber orchestra of 15-players, the work received its world premiere at HGO in 2014, was nominated for the World Premiere award at the International Opera Awards 2015 and has since been seen in a sell-out new production at WNO. The Italian premiere was staged in Trento in December-2016.
In Parenthesis
